We have to build on our good form says Dabizas

Nikos Dabizas says Leicester City are eager to build on "one of their best performances of the season" as they attempt to mount a serious promotion challenge.

Last week's 2-0 win at Leeds moved City to within touching distance of the Championship play-offs and the Greek international believes another victory against Reading on Saturday will allow his side to take another huge stride in the right direction.

Back-to-back victories - only their second of the campaign - have moved City to within five points of sixth-placed QPR after 22 games.

"Our performance against Leeds was one of the best of the season so far, but it is important that we keep the run going," said the 31-year-old centre-half.

"The gap between ourselves and the teams at the top of the table isn't huge, so if we could put a run of three or four wins in a row together then that would be great for everyone connected with the club.

"It is important for us to continue doing the right things if we are going to give ourselves a chance of promotion.

"We haven't lost too many matches but I feel that we have played out too many draws, especially at home."

However, Dabizas knows that City must adopt an air of caution when the Royals visit the Walkers Stadium this weekend.

Steve Coppell's men are currently fourth in the table having lost just three games in 13 matches. But they were on the end of a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Wolves last week.

"Reading are a good team and will be looking to put things right," added Dabizas.

"But we have to stop them, it is as simple as that.

"If we can win it then it will be a very big step for us in terms of our promotion bid.

"But we won't be getting carried away, it is a long season."

Meanwhile, the former Newcastle United star is enjoying life alongside Dion Dublin at the heart of the City defence.

City have conceded just one goal in the last two games and have secured successive wins.

"The difference with the team now is that we are scoring goals. But at the same time we are keeping it tight at the back and not making silly mistakes and putting ourselves under unnecessary pressure," Dabizas added.

"That's the basics of football and it gives you a solid foundation from which to build on.

"Dion and myself feel as though we have formed a good partnership and that was a big part of our success at Elland Road."
